Sharps Waste Disposal
* Free bins & delivery (No bin rental charges) * Inclusive of all Duty of Care documentation * Flexible contracts
“Sharps” include objects with points or edges that can be used to puncture or lacerate the skin, such as needles, syringes, lancets, injection devices, blades and scissors. Aside from the obvious Doctors, Dentists and medical facilities where you would expect to see “Sharps” in practice, today we see them more and more on the high street in beauty salons, aesthetic practices, tattoo studios and in schools, nurseries and many places of employment.
These sharps are classed as “Hazardous” waste – and when they have also been contaminated and pose a risk of infection (if they have been in contact with blood, bodily fluid or medication) they are classed as bio-hazardous.

Sustainable Waste Disposal by Green Circle Direct
Here at Green Circle Direct our network of expert service providers are all registered waste carriers with decades of experience in effective and safe clinical and hazardous waste disposal.
It is the producers of the waste (the businesses & practitioners using the sharps) that are legally responsible for their safe disposal, which must be evidenced. They must be placed in approved receptacles (bins) of the right size (they cannot be overfilled) and stored securely ready for collection by a registered waste carrier.
We offer flexible payment plans – ranging from a non-commitment short term plan for those starting out or not quite sure of the future, to a very attractive advance plan with substantial discounts as a thank you for the commitment – the choice is yours
At Green Circle Direct our expert service providers have been selected due to their sustainability credentials – committed to zero to landfill, focusing on resource recovery, endeavouring to provide sound ecological solutions to waste disposal – with almost all waste processed either being recycled (where non-hazardous or non-infectious) or taken to Energy from Waste (EfW) plants.
Our healthcare and clinical waste management contracts offer competitive, fair rates with a compliant and safe service – with no hidden costs guaranteed.
We provide and service all of the legally required waste receptacles (bins to you and me!) as required to dispose of all of your waste. The sharps bins are made of puncture-proof plastic and are always yellow with colour coded lids.
We also offer for sale bins from sustainably sourced manufacturers and associated accessories. Regardless of how much waste you have, a service can be arranged with a suitable, convenient collection schedule.

Your Legal Obligations
The Environmental Protection Act of 1990 states: “it is unlawful to deposit, recover or dispose of controlled waste without a waste management licence, or in any way that causes pollution of the environment or harm to human health”
This legislates that businesses producing clinical waste have a duty of care to manage their waste safely and responsibly. They are legally obliged to register with the Environmental Agency and ensure that their waste disposal is provided by reputable and accredited waste carriers for disposal – evidenced through signed consignment notes.
The producer of the clinical waste is responsible for its safe and proper disposal,
with “Duty of Care” notes documenting the transfer of waste and recording that you, as the producer, have complied fully by handing your waste over in the right receptacles – to registered carrier who will take the waste away to a licensed waste disposal site.
There are serious consequences of failure to comply including substantial fines, or even the closure of premises.
The service provision from Green Circle Direct keeps you compliant – providing the obligatory consignment note and waste declaration form every time a collection is made – all downloadable from your digital account at a moment’s notice – vital for any inspection.
In 2005, the government published the Hazardous Waste Regulations, changing the way in which hazardous waste including needles and pharmaceuticals must be disposed of. Due to the potential risk that hazardous waste poses to both the environment and society, it requires disposal within specifically identified (with European Waste Catalogue (EWC) Codes), secure receptacles – preventing injury and the spread of disease.
